Martens was previously Chief Business Development Officer for CI Select (a St. Louis based integrated commercial furnishings company) which she co-founded with George Piccirilli in 1985.  Through her sales management, recruiting and business development efforts, Martens led the company's expansion efforts, from their original contract furniture business, into an integrated high-tech audiovisual solutions provider and flooring contractor with two acquisitions.

National Association of Women Business OwnersUnder her leadership, CI Select received numerous awards, including the Greater St. Louis Top 50 Award for fast growth and contributions to the St. Louis community, and the International Facilities Management Associations (IFMA) Outstanding Company award.

Prior to CI Select, Martens received a bachelor’s degree in Psychology/Philosophy from Hope College in Holland, Michigan and worked for a leading office furniture manufacturer known for innovation.  She was instrumental in bringing the concept of modular work environments to the St. Louis market in 1981 - helping companies use the build environment to support workplace strategies.  She was a pioneer in helping create the local chapter of IFMA, at the time a newly formed organization to support managers who had responsibility for the facility, which has since grown internationally and helps train and certify Facilities Managers.

Martens distinguishes herself not just through her professional accomplishments, but also through her community service and her civic activities (both past and present) – including the RCGA, AAIM Employers' Association, ACG and IREM.
